Biography

 

Tey Beng Tze received a fine art diploma in 2003 from Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA). He uses a mixture of media (oil, charcoal, ink, oil pastels, pencil, acrylic, ball point pen) on his artworks. He has a strong passion in visual art, he loves to paint and draw since childhood. Art is an expression of your experiences and memories for him. In truth, his work is inspired everything around him, from outsider’s art, to cartoons and toys.

 

"My works are purely autobiographical.They are documentations about myself as well as and things around me. What I really like to preserve is what interests me. An exploration of life around me."

 

He is one of the founding member of an art collective "Findars", which consists of 8 members from the field of fine-arts, graphics design, illustration and music. Formed in early 2007, they share strong passion and influence of independent arts and music both local and international. 

Running RAW Art Space, RAW is an independent venue located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s historic Chinatown.

Born from the past experience of the collectively-run Findars Art Space, RAW Art Space pledges to keep moving along the same path and beyond. A hub for guest curators, visual artists, illustrators, graphic designers, musicians, film and video-makers, dancers and choreographers, RAW Art Space plays a vital role in Kuala Lumpur’s independent art community, providing a sanctuary for all sorts of challenging, experimental art forms.

 

RAW presents on a regular basis visual art exhibitions, improvised and experimental music concerts, performances and screenings, collaborating with partners as diverse as KLEX (Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Video and Music Festival), SPIL (Serious Play Improv Lab), and AWAS! (A Weekend of Animation Shorts).
